About GradeCheck®
GradeCheck® Corporation provides academic guidance to the high school student
athlete who is hoping to receive an athletic scholarship from a College or University.
All students hoping to play college sports must register with the National Collegiate
Athletic Association (NCAA) and meet requirements laid down by the NCAA Clearinghouse.
Although this information is available online, many parents and students are still
unclear on exactly what they have to do to be eligible to play NCAA sports.
GradeCheck® Corporation seeks to simplify the process of determining NCAA eligibility.
We are currently developing an Internet system that will enable students to track
their academic progress quickly and easily online, and to rapidly determine what
NCAA eligibility requirements they still need to meet.
History
GradeCheck® Corporation was founded in 1997 and incorporated in 2004. The company’s
founder, Shelia McBride, established GradeCheck®
because as a parent herself, she felt she had an obligation to understand the NCAA
eligibility requirements and to ensure her son met them.
While in the process of monitoring her son’s grades and test scores, McBride
developed a system that simplified her tracking process. Using this system, she
monitored her son’s progress throughout his high school career. The system
allowed her to determine what requirements he still needed to meet and what areas
he needed to strengthen.
The system not only allowed her to keep track of his progress, but also presented
his eligibility status in a way that he could understand, and motivated him to study
harder.
At the end of his senior year, he was declared eligible by the NCAA Clearinghouse
to receive an athletic scholarship from an intercollegiate program.
